Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. It is estimated that 186,320 new cases in 2008 in the United States. Incidence rates of prostate cancer are much higher in African-American man in white males. Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men, with an estimated 28,660 in 2008.

Early prostate cancer usually has no signs or symptoms. With less aggressive tumors, careful observation may be more appropriate, instead of immediate treatment, especially men are older and have other medical problems. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy or a combination of these treatments is used to treat more advanced cases.
